Senior Tomato Inspector
Los Banos District

Hourly Pay Rate:  $17.67
Final Filing Date:  October 22, 5 p.m.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Under the supervision of the Assistant District Supervisor(s), the Senior Tomato Inspector must be capable of performing the essential functions of the tomato inspector job and the following:

        Efficiently operating an assigned inspection station.

        Training inspectors in PTAB policies, procedures and standards.

        Monitoring proper use, care and inventory of all equipment and supplies.

        Correcting, checking and completing inspection records.

        Coordinating work with inspectors and station personnel.

        Providing detailed explanations of inspection procedures and results to industry and supervisors.

        Obtaining and communicating necessary load information.

        Adhering to and enforcing the PTAB’s Conduct code.

        Following and teaching safe work habits, recognizing and correcting unsafe practices, preparing initial injury and accident reports.

        Conducting safety meetings in accordance with district policy.

        Informing supervisors and other Seniors of all relevant station events and changes.

        Assuming other duties as the need and as opportunities arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

        Education equivalent to High School education

 

        At least 80 straight time hours inspecting tomatoes for PTAB

        Thorough knowledge of PTAB inspection procedures and safety policies.       

Valid driver’s license and a current DMV print-out.

        A car in good repair and proof of valid insurance.

        Satisfactory job evaluations from their PTAB supervisors.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

        Concentrating on and conscientiously performing repetitious tasks.

        Ability to work harmoniously with others in a pressured work environment.

        Pleasant and efficient phone manners.

        Politeness and tact when handling complaints, answering questions and correcting errors.

        Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, and weekends as needed and flexibility to work any station within the district.

        Know when to take initiative and when to consult or inform supervisors.

        Demonstrated trustworthiness to PTAB and the industry.

        Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
